- Support activities to performing arts
The Swaledale Festival was founded in 1980, and is a registered charity. It is the principal provider of professional music across the northern Yorkshire Dales, with events spread over two weeks in May–June each year, in churches, chapels, castles, old cinemas and village halls around Swaledale, Arkengarthdale and Wensleydale.
The Festival attracts around 7,000 visitors a year, generating a calculated £340,000 of business within Richmondshire. The Board is keen to partner with local traders in order to promote Swaledale and Wensleydale more effectively to visitors, and to make the district an aspirational place to live. Initiatives include a popular Sponsorship scheme (details on request) with many defined benefits for Sponsors, and a 'Where to Stay in Swaledale and Wensleydale' leaflet in the 2012 bulk mailing.
